Junior League to host Purple for a Purpose 5k event

The Junior League of Northwest Arkansas will host the Purple for a Purpose running event on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale.

The second annual event, which aims to raise awareness about local domestic violence, includes a 5k chip-timed race, a 5k fun run, and a 1k kids character run.

The event was scheduled to help kick off October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month for the region.

From a news release:

It is the League’s hope for our community to band together and make the statement that we will not tolerate domestic violence and ongoing abuse. Just as the JLNWA empowers the women within our League, we want to empower the public and domestic violence victims to take a stand.

The chip-timed race will start at 8 a.m. with the fun run to follow at 8:05 a.m. The 1k kids character run (ages 12 and under with accompanying family members) begins at 9 a.m.

All funds go towards the league’s mission to help prevent, educate, raise awareness, add communication and empower women regarding domestic violence in Northwest Arkansas.

Registration is $15-$27, and runs through 10 p.m. on Oct. 1.
