Bars, drinks and all things Fayetteville. We are clearly interested in these (among other pursuits of course!) at the Flyer. From time to time I love going to Lambeth Lounge. They offer comfortable seating and a tasty menu from Ella’s. There is a TV which during the right season showcases Hog Sports. The drinks are top notch and the bartender is the best in Fayetteville. The lounge is made up of people who are Arkansas Alums and locals who want a drink in a great bar with a cozy feel. It may not be the most happening bar in Fayetteville but it certainly is one of the best.

Who? Ryan

Why? Ryan never forgets a face or a drink. Everytime we are there he walks around the lounge in a laid back manner. Never intrusive on your time, yet he feels like an old friend. He always knows when to “freshen up” your drink, or bring you a new beer. He suggests new menu items and is not afraid to talk you through ordering a new drink — even if you have no idea what you want to drink that night. I know Lambeth Lounge is a popular spot for Razorback home games and wedding receptions, but I would like to add that Ryan is another reason to go.

Treat yourself, your friends or your smoking hot significant other to a fancy drink and cheese board here one night. Make a new friend in the Bitchin’ bartender Ryan.

I have worked at the Northwest Arkansas Mall for 6 years. I have eaten in the mall more times than I care to count. I am always amazed when people from offices go the food court to eat lunch so “everyone can have a choice.” So let me share with you office workers, shoppers and people who like great customer service — next time you are in the mall head straight to Frullati for a freshly made salad and tons of smoothie choices. Add to that a great attitude from Todd and your mall eating experience will make you forget you actually liked something in the window at Hot Topic.

Where: Frullati - Northwest Arkansas Mall

Who: Todd

Why: The Caesar salad. Caesar salad is my number one favorite food. No joke — we are talking Death Row meal here. So it’s surprising that the one at Frullati is one of the best in town. The lettuce (romaine even — not iceberg!) is fresh, the dressing is perfect and the salad is hand tossed. Add freshly diced chicken and you are golden. This may sound simple but, I have had MANY terrible Caesar salads at far swankier establishments that were garbage. I would also like to add that all employees at Frullati have to make a million smoothies all day long, including the obnoxiously named Peanut Butter Banana Butterfinger Smoothie, and they are fast and pleasant. I may branch out into the sandwiches one day but for a now I am sticking with the best Caesar salad in town courtesy of Todd.

Rants – I love them and I love people who rant. Lewis Black, Dennis Leary (circa 1994) and my personal favorite Dr. Cox are all stellar ranters who make me laugh and in my opinion (flawed as it is) make sense. And let’s face it – all people rant. All of us are eager to share stories of terrible experiences, be it awful customer service, poor food quality, crappy movie viewings or some other slight to us as consumers.

I consider myself a ranter. I also consider myself someone who recognizes the need to reward instead of just ranting. As someone who has worked with the general public for 6+ years, I am hyper aware of poor customer service and experiences. That being said I also have developed an eye for the opposite. People and places DO go beyond what is expected. And they should be rewarded – if no where else than at least on the Flyer. That may not pay the bills, but as an employee of the public and as a manager of people I can tell you it means a lot to those who receive compliments instead of complaints.

I present to you “You’re Not a Bitch – You’re Bitching”

Where: Starbucks – next to Northwest Arkansas Florist (you know the painted horse)

Who: Brad, LittleBear and Jody

Why: I know it’s cool to hate on Starbucks. I know we have a local coffee shop in town that is really good. I also know that Starbucks is on my way to work. Brad and LittleBear (yes that’s his real name) are ridiculously friendly. I have been in line many times and they remember customer’s names and drinks. They always smile and if someone does not know what a drink is or asks for something by the wrong name they help them out. I have witnessed both of them explaining the difference between a cappuccino and a latte – with no air of cockiness or boredom. Jody is the manager. She has hired and kept a group of people who are consistently pleasant and helpful. So thank you to Jody, Brad and LittleBear for making spending a daily $4 a lot more awesome.
