Wind and rain took our power

If you were in town yesterday at around 11am, you might’ve been without power for at least a couple of hours. We sure were.

Crazy winds and tons of rain tore through Fayetteville Saturday morning leaving power outages, downed trees and lots of water. LOTS of water.

Most notable were the half dozen or so stoplights that were completely out of order. For the most part, Fayetteville drivers are pretty smart and many showed their knowledge of traffic law by treating the dead lights as four-way stops. Of course, a few continued to fly through the intersection of College and Township at 40 MPH while everyone else tried not to get slammed.

A few of the more dangerous intersections such as the one at Gregg and Sycamore were fortunate enough to have a police car sitting at them with its lights flashing in order to slow things down.

The whole ordeal was over by about 1pm and things were back to normal.

If you weren’t able to make it out to the lighting of the Fayetteville Square last Saturday, you can check out our Lights of the Ozarks - 2008 Flickr set (slideshow below).

It was a really great night, folks. Tons of people showed up, the parade was nice and there was even some live music on the west side of the square. Anybody know who those guys were with the guitars?

There were rumors earlier in the year that the lights were going to be cancelled due to budget cuts. Not true. Although there are a few less lights than normal, the square is just as beautiful as ever. Head on up and check them out for yourself, won’t ya?
