A local barbecue restaurant will celebrate a major milestone this weekend.

Penguin Ed’s BBQ will celebrate their 30th anniversary in business this Saturday, Oct. 14 at their locations at 2773 E Mission Blvd and 230 S E Ave. in Fayetteville.

The restaurant is planning a celebration at both their locations to commemorate the occasion, with free penguin-shaped cookies for guests, along with free stickers and balloons, free face painting, $3 pulled pork sandwiches and 30¢ drinks, a barbecue grill raffle, and more.

Penguin Ed’s got its start in 1993, when owners Ed and Diane Knight opened a barbecue tent near the corner of Crossover Road and Mission Boulevard. That tent eventually got upgraded to a trailer, before eventually opening a brick and mortar location near that same intersection a few years later in 1996.

The restaurant still operates the Mission Boulevard location, as well as the historic B&B barbecue location that they purchased from the Bassett family in 1998.

A few years ago, Ed’s longtime friend and manager Bob Grant became a partner in the business in 2017.

The 30 year celebration will take place from open to close at both Fayetteville locations. For a bit more information, check out the Facebook post about the festivities.
