Ani DiFranco is coming to town

Posted on 16 July 2008 by Ted Dancin

Despite having her latest release added to Pitchforkmedia’s list of 20 Worst Album Covers of 2007, an unfazed Ani DiFranco is charging ahead as usual. And fortunately for Northwest Arkansas fans, she’s stopping by the AMP George’s Majestic Lounge on September 16.

All insignificant album cover lists aside, DiFranco’s latest “DiFrancology” Canon, features a whopping 36 songs from her back catalog and offers what her website deems “an unprecedented look at how the artist sees her prolific career.”

For fans who were expecting more than just a “greatest hits” type of album from DiFranco last year, it should be noted that it’s a wonder she was even able to sit down and compile anything considering she had just given birth to daughter Petah Lucia in January. From what I hear, babies are sort of time consuming. Apparently you have to feed them and help them use the bathroom for a while or something like that.

Who’s pumped?

Big Music Weekend at the Amp

Posted on 14 July 2008 by Ted Dancin

This past weekend was one of the busiest of the summer for the Arkansas Music Pavilion with three back-to-back shows.

Jason Isbell, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Stoney LaRue played Thursday night.

The rock continued on Friday, when quirky rockers Ween took the stage.

Saturday night, however, the Pat Benetar show had to be called off due to the nature of the electrical storms that kicked Fayetteville’s ass for hours on end. It was the first time the AMP had to cancel a show. Bummer.

These three shows could not be more different. And that’s a good thing if you ask us. We can tell the folks who put these shows on are trying to bring some great, diverse artists to town. Good job, AMP peeps.

So, did you make it out to any of these shows? Did you get your face rocked off? Did you dance? Did you sing? Did you see Jesus? Let us know!

Eddie Money coming to the AMP

Posted on 05 June 2008 by Ted Dancin

Thanks to Tuned In for noticing that Eddie Money will be performing live this summer at the AMP on September 5th.

The show is not listed on the AMP site yet but Pollstar has Fayetteville listed as the newest addition to the aging rocker’s latest tour which looks to consist mostly of casino’s, resorts and of course, a handful of county fairs.

With this news, please enjoy the following cover of “Two Tickets To Paradise” performed by Karate’s Geoff Farina off of the “Guilt By Association” compliation.

Initial ‘08 AMP lineup lookin’ good

Posted on 11 April 2008 by Ted Dancin

For a while there, nobody seemed to know if everyone’s favorite mall parking lot music venue would even return this year. But couple its conversion to a nonprofit with the help of Majestic Concerts and things are suddenly looking good for the future of the AMP.

This year’s initial lineup is already turning heads (at least ours). Most notably (according to today’s NWA Times What’s Up! section), The Black Crowes are set to perform on August 14th. Other bands include Ween, Jason Isbell (formerly of the Drive-by Truckers), Ricky Skaggs and Pat Benatar. A handful of others have also been announced with even more to come later and even if these bands aren’t exactly your total cup of tea, you’d have a hard time convincing anyone around here that this initial lineup isn’t already a step above the usual fair for the AMP.

Except for the Black Crowes show (which will be available May 3rd), tickets are available now at amptickets.com.

Hats off to the AMP and Majestic Concerts. This is exciting news for Northwest Arkansas and we look forward to seeing the rest of this year’s lineup.
