Have your say about Fayetteville High School

Posted on 24 March 2008 by Ted Dancin'

If you’ve been paying any attention lately, you’ll know there’s a heated topic concerning the fate of Fayetteville High School.

Should it stay or should it go?

Until now, there’s been no way to voice your opinion on the matter other than by signing petitions (or standing next to all the weirdos with signs on College Ave.).

At 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday in the Ramay Jr. High cafeteria the Future of Fayetteville High School Select Committee 2 will hold a public comment session for the first time. If you’ve got anything to say other than “Honk 4 Life”, head on down to Ramay Jr. High and let the committee know.

For more insight on the subject, visit The Iconoclast’s post from yesterday. They gots all the info you needs.

BuildSmart tells its side of the story

Posted on 26 February 2008 by Ted Dancin'

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering what all the fuss is about concerning Fayetteville High School. There’s a pretty juicy debate going on right now and eventually you’re gonna have to pick a side.

One argument is to sell FHS to the University of Arkansas and use the money for a brand new school. Then there are those who’d prefer the school to expand at it’s current location. Without the proper amount of information, it’s nearly impossible to come to a logical conclusion as to where you stand.

One group, BuildSmart, has put together a website to help explain why they believe FHS should stay right where it is. The group describes itself as “a coalition of parents, teachers, students and other school district patrons who believe in keeping one of Fayetteville’s most important components - its high school — in a central location.”

The site is filled with all kinds of information from a simple mission statement to detailed maps, articles, links and even the minutes from recent relevant school board meetings. Head on over to the site to see why they believe keeping FHS where it is would be cheaper, safer and more environmentally friendly than moving it to the edge of the school district.

And with that, we’d like to ask this question to those who’d prefer the school to move: Why should we stand by you? And more importantly, where is your website?

[UPDATE: Here's their website]
