Flipoff Pirates will join Snoop Lion, Widespread Panic, Of Monsters and Men and over 100 other acts set to play this year’s installment of Wakarusa.
Other acts added today include Grouplove, Galactic, Gogol Bordello, Ozomatli and more.
Five local bands will compete in a battle-of-the-bands style competition called the Waka Winter Classic, and the audience in attendance will choose a winner to determine which local band will earn a chance to perform at Wakarusa 2013 this summer.
The second of three lineup announcements was released Thursday.
The news came in the first of three rounds of lineup announcements on the festival’s Facebook page.
The 2013 lineup will be announced on Facebook in three rounds beginning Monday, Jan. 3.
The 2013 Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival will take place Thursday, May 30 through Sunday, June 2 festival organizers announced today.
An estimated 20,000 fans showed up this year to watch more than 150 artists perform on five stages throughout the four-day event.
As usual, the Main Stage is closed on Sunday, but the other four stages will have music from 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. Monday morning.
Main Stage highlights on Saturday include Umphrey’s McGee, Primus and Big Gigantic.
Main Stage highlights on Friday include Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Avett Brothers and Girl Talk.
Main Stage highlights on Thursday include Railroad Earth, Pretty Lights, and an acoustic performance by Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, and Jackie Greene.
As usual on Wakarusa Eve, there was plenty left to do in preparation opening day of the annual camping and music festival when we arrived Wednesday afternoon.
Tickets are currently $179 for a full-event pass, $139 for a three-day pass and $99 for a two-day pass. Plus, every vehicle entering the festival requires a camping or parking pass ($29-$99).
You’ve seen the lineup. You’ve probably got your tickets. Now, it’s time to map out your plan of exactly who you want to see at Wakarusa 2012.
The cost of a ticket will rise on Saturday, April 7.
The Avett Brothers are set to headline the 2012 Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, it was announced today.
The format for the competition is simple. Whichever band gets the most votes from fans in attendance at the show Thursday night will win a chance to perform at Wakarusa.
The news came Thursday in the second of three scheduled lineup announcements on the Wakarusa Facebook page. A final announcement is expected on Jan. 19.
