Arkansas doesn’t make AP Top 25

The last time the basketball Hogs saw the light of the AP Top 25 was November 12, 2007. It was a brief flirt, however, and not just because it only lasted nine days. Before that, they hadn’t been in the top 25 since December 2000. Ouch.

After starting the season as the last place pick in the SEC West, the Razorbacks are on an incredibly awesome 11-1 roll in the 2008-2009 season and are currently enjoying a nine-game winning streak. Last Tuesday, they even knocked off No. 4 Oklahoma. No, seriously. They did!

With such an impressive-sounding paragraph of information sitting directly above this one, it’s going to be a bit strange to type the following words: Arkansas is still not ranked.

Lots of folks thought today would be the day. It’s not.

We were close, though. The complete rankings show the Hogs receiving 109 votes so technically you could say they’re 28th. And they even received 27 points in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Top 25 poll.

Arkansas almost certainly will not end up in last place in the SEC. And they might not continue their 30-something home game non-conference winning streak tomorrow night. But one thing’s for sure. Texas is going to have their hands full when they step onto the court at Bud Walton Arena Tuesday evening.

And even though they’re most likely going to be a little more alert than Blake Griffin & Co. were last week, we don’t think the Longhorns quite understand what they’re in for.
