Weekend: March 6, 7, 8

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Friday, Mar 6, 2009

According to Weather.com it’s 70 degrees as of 10:00 am this morning, and according to me, that means it’s time to get out of winter hibernation, and out into the world to do something awesome. Weekend!

This weekend, you could stay home and re-watch all 6 Rocky movies to try and disprove Wiff Rightly’s rankings, but if you do, you’ll be missing out on some of the best weather we’ve had around here in a long time. Remember last weekend?

Instead, here are some things going on around town to get you out of the house, and increase that vitamin D intake that we all need. Right?

Tonight, Big Smith return to Fayetteville at George’s. They haven’t been here in a while, so I’d suggest getting tickets ASAP. Most of their shows sell out I believe.

My old boss’ favorite band Lil’ Hoojin is at Froggy’s, and there is no cover for that show. Matt Smith of the Flipoff Pirates will be at the Smoke and Barrel with his freakishly talented father. Those who’ve seen these two play together have been raving about how incredible this show is, so check it out.

Tomorrow morning, the Alzheimer’s Association of NWA will host a Memory Walk at the NWA Mall to raise money the association. It begins at 7:30 at the NWA Mall.

In the afternoon, another outdoor activity with a purpose is the Omni Center for Peace and Equality’s
Demonstration to Demand Withdrawl of US Troops from Iraq. Protesters will gather at 1:00 pm at the corner of Mall Ave and Joyce Avenue. For more information, call Chris at 586-2053 or click here.

Also on Saturday, Bike City will host a bicycle maintenance workshop. The workshop is free, but a $2 donation will be accepted. Register here.

Tomorrow night, Big Smith will make an encore performance at George’s.

There’s a hilarious sounding show at Froggy’s. Hot Shot Karate, Will Gunselman and the 57’s, and Wing and a Prayer will be playing “Mustache Extravaganza.” The bands will be mustachioed (win), and mustachioed gentlemen get in free (win). Ladies get to look at lot’s of mustachioed gentlemen (win!). Win/win/win!

There’s a great show Saturday at George’s as well. Fayetteville’s The Smithstonians will join awesome Little Rock band Damn Bullets for Monster Mug Night. No cover. Wow.

JR’s still has their seven 7oz beers for $3.50 on Sunday night as well.

These are the things we know of that are going on around town. As always, feel free to add to the list in the comments. Awesome.
