Michael Washington to return to Arkansas for his senior season

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Michael Washington tested the NBA waters this spring, but Wes Moore of Little Rock’s Today’s THV is reporting that Arkansas’ best big man will withdraw his name from the draft and return to Arkansas for his senior season.

Washington declared himself eligible for the NBA draft a few months ago, but did not hire an agent, leaving himself an opportunity to return to school.

A couple weeks ago, it was reported that Arkansas is facing possible NCAA penalty for failing to meet Academic Progress Report standards. The “APR” score is given to each team based on a combination of factors, and is intended to hold schools accountable for academic progress of it’s student athletes. Washington’s announcement that he will return to Arkansas for his senior year doesn’t solve Arkansas’ APR woe’s, but it will certainly help.

You know what else it will help? Our basketball team next year. Michael Washington was by far Arkansas’ most talented and most experienced post player. Welcome back, Mike Wash. We needed you.
