Weekend: June 12, 13, 14

Some weeks, “Thank God it’s Friday” just doesn’t cut it.

Some weeks, even “Sonofamotherdonkeytaco it’s Friday” doesn’t cut it. Sometimes there just aren’t enough expletives to express how much a weekend is needed.

Like this week for example. This week gets 42 expletives. In a row.

Luckily for all of us, the weekend is starting at approximately 5:00 pm Friday, and we can all just forget about our troubles, and take off our shoes, and get weird. Weekend!

Today, if you’re sneaky enough to get out of work, you can check out some of the finest athletes in the country at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at John McDonnel Field. The action starts at 12:00, and runs into the evening. Here’s a schedule.

There’s a poetry reading at an “undisclosed location” as The Burning Chair Readings & Cannibal Books present Farrah Field & Jared White. It’s free.

Also tonight, check out some tunes.

If Jack Daniels and Evan Williams could have a child together, the result would be Jack Williams, playing at the Goodfolk House.

Matt Smith Trio is at Smoke and Barrel, and you can check out some magic at the Walton Arts Center with Spencer’s Theatre of Illusion. It’ll freak you out.

Don’t overdo it tonight, though, because tomorrow starts early.

First, it’s Saturday in the Summertime, so that means the day starts at the Farmers Market. You’ll wanna get there early, because at 10:00 am there’s a Breakfast Boogie going on at George’s with Big Uns. Proceeds from the breakfast Boogie will benefit Youth Bridge.

The Baseball Razorbacks are taking on Cal State Fullerton at 1:00 in the College World series, so you’d better check that out. The game will be televised by ESPN.

After boogying and baseballing, a group called the Lighter Side of Dickson presents the first ever Take Your Kids to Dickson event at downtown businesses on Dickson St. We’ll have a lot more information on TYK2D later today, but expect to see lots of kiddos kicking it on Dickson tomorrow. The fun starts at 3:00 pm.

You can also head over to the Botanical Gardens tomorrow to see some Opera if you want. Hansel and Gretel starts at 4:00.

Hardaway and the Commoners and 1oz Jig. are playing George’s Saturday Night, and the Smithstonians will be at the Smoke and Barrel.

If we can make it to all that, we’ll be happy. The full list of the weekend activities as far as we know are listed below. What are you guys doing this weekend?
