The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) looked at over 600 candidates in its Smarter Cities campaign and ranked Fayetteville #6. Areas considered were air quality, energy production and conservation, green building, and a other sustainable living practices categories. (Via Municipal Live Wire)

Million-ish dollar campaign kicks off
The Campaign for a Stronger Fayetteville officially began yesterday. Its goal is to gain support for the passing of a millage to fund the brand new Fayetteville High School. They’ve got a website, a blog and they’re on the Twitters. Opponents, beware.

Memphis’ baby elephant dies
Monday night, the Memphis Zoo welcomed a healthy newborn elephant after nearly two years pregnancy. Early this morning, the baby calf stumbled and fell. When the mother tried to help it up, her tusk got in the way and the poor thing died an hour later.
