Shortcuts: Thursday 7/9

  • By Todd Gill · Thursday, Jul 9, 2009

Shortcuts are hand-picked bits of news, commentary and info from around the city, the region and even from beyond the state line.

Here are today’s Shortcuts:

LOCAL

A sportsy day
Stefan Welsh is suspended from the basketball team and Houston Nutt is about to star in a reality TV show. No, seriously.

A special announcement?
A sportsy day, indeed. The UA athletic department plans to host a “Celebration of the Razorback” event on July 21 at the Walton Arts Center parking lot. A special announcement is also expected from UA officials. Guesses, anyone?

NEARBY

Bruno in the news
Remember the new Bruno movie we heard rumors about this time last year? Sacha Baron Cohen is in the news again but Newsweek questions the possible manipulation of Bruno’s subjects in Ft. Smith. Plus, he talks (out of character) about his time in Arkansas on Letterman.

Oxford American premiers ‘SoLost’
The OA has a brand new website and yesterday, it premiered the first in its new original video series, SoLost, a celebration of getting lost in the American South. First up: Mountain View, AR.

ELSEWHERE

31 million of you watched MJ memorial
At least that’s what Rolling Stone says.

NY Times to charge for content
A wise man recently said the reason the New York Times matters isn’t because of its boring news and analysis but because everyone reads it. What’ll happen when everyone stops reading it?
