Weekend: July 16, 17, 18

It’s been hotter than Cindy Crawford in the hot desert covered with jalapeno hot sauce in Fayetteville lately, but after being in the upper 90’s for most of the last week (sweaty), the high temperature today is 82 (spring-y), and the forecast is calling for sun, and the low 80’s all weekend (sexy). Awesome.

Even better news is that this unseasonably cool weather is hitting at the best possible time of the week. I’m talking about the weekend, baby.

If you’re into good tunes, you’ve got some tough choices to make tonight. Fayetteville has one of the best Friday night lineups we’ve seen in a while.

Former Fayetteville resident Cory Branan makes his return to Fayetteville at George’s tonight, and he’s bringing Drag the River’s Jon Snodgrass with him.

If you want your whole face rocked into oblivion, we’d recommend An A+ Setup. They’ll be at the Smoke and Barrel tonight with a really awesome band from Indianapolis, Amo Joy. Check out some of Amo Joy’s tunes. Trust me.

There’s also a sweet show going on at the New Deli with Color Club, Transmography, and The Counterlife. We’ve profiled all three of these guys here, here, and here,

The Smithstonians are at ROTC, and 1 oz Jig will be at On the Rocks.

Good luck deciding between all that cool stuff. But whatever you decide, don’t overdue it. You have to get up early on Saturday.

The Farmers Market starts on the Square at 7:00 where you’ll be able to see Tiffany Christopher at Jammin’ Java, and you’re gonna want to get down to Jose’s early for the record exchange to benefit Community Preschool. Gotta get the good stuff before Boggy Creek Creature gets there. Just sayin’.

At 6:00, some awesome people are sponsoring a tweet-up / virtual block party at one of Fayetteville’s coolest small parts, Gregory Park (behind McDonalds on College/Sycamore.) It’s a potluck, so bring a dish.

The Matt Smith Trio will be at Smoke and Barrel (all three of them) on Saturday night, and Ultra Suede will be at George’s.

Looks like the Northside of Fayetteville is starting to do some live music as well, with Effron White at Mellow Mushroom, and Toast to the Blind at Louie’s Bar and Grill. Respect.

On Sunday, you can check out the Pope County Bootleggers at Common Grounds, a cool afternoon show at George’s with NWA Pioneers of Rock and Roll (a lineup of old school Fayetteville all-stars), and there’s some bitching metal at the Gypsy on College with Vore, and some other bands with really violent sounding names.
