In cities all over the country, kickball has become somewhat of a phenomenon.
Leagues have formed all over the place as more and more people are reliving their playground glory on the kickball diamond. Starting this fall, Northwest Arkansas is finally getting in on some of that action with its very own Kickball Association.
NWA Kickball was formed by locals Bryan Ellithorpe, Mike Peterman and D’lorah Hughes, and the positive response they’ve already received has created enough momentum that teams and leagues are already forming for the fall.
“I am not sure why this hasn’t been done in Fayetteville before other than the fact that it is a lot of work to set up. We think it is a perfect fit for NWA – fun, independent and community based.” Hughes told us.
“We hope to have teams from all over Northwest Arkansas. We would like to have 16 teams for the Fall season.”
Games will be held at the Springdale Softball Fields, and anyone can start a team. Teams require a minimum of nine players and four must be women. Hughes recommends that teams have more than nine people on the roster to ensure that substitute players as available.
Registration begins next week, so you’ve got the weekend to start getting your team together, with games scheduled to begin at the end of August. The full schedule of kickball-related events is below, and there is a website in the works, and a Facebook page as well that has been established to help keep you informed.
