Weekend: August 7, 8, 9

Last night, we kicked it with about half of Fayetteville on the downtown square (the other half were at Gulley Park) at the First Thursday art walk and movie night. I’m no good at estimating attendance, but I’d say about 100,000 people were on the square last night. Not bad! (Also, not true)

I’m not really good at estimating the amount of cool things happening on any given weekend either, but I’m gonna say there about 3,000 of them happening this weekend. That’s a lot.

Tonight, there’s a huge show at George’s with Georgia’s Drive By Truckers. Hill Country Revue (featuring North Mississippi Allstars’ Cody Dickinson) will open the show. It will be packed.

Speaking of great songwriters, there’s an interesting sounding experiment at the UARK Bowl, with “Songs in the ‘Ville”, a songwriters-in-the-round show featuring Jim Patton and Sherry Brokus, Donna Stjerna and Kelly Mulhollan (Still on the Hill), Patrick William, and Effron White.

Ultra Studio’s is having an artist reception for Sherry Powell’s photography. Raja will be tickling the fretboard, Flaminco style. Also, it’s free (I like that word).

Cletus Got Shot will be at the Smoke and Barrel, and there’s a big ole John Hughes (RIP) tribute/80’s dance party at Grub’s with Boom Kinetic.

Tomorrow night, there’s a rock show at Smoke and Barrel with Perpetual Werewolf and Friday Maybe Saturday. A loud rock show.

Also on Saturday, comedian Bill Engvall will be at the Walton Arts Center.

Sunday is busier than normal this week.

There’s Shakespeare in the Garden at the BGO with Much Ado About Nothing.

Benjamin Del Shreve will be playing at 21st Amendment, and there will be 1/2 price wine and martini’s. Benjamin will be wearing a beard.

Also, the Pope County Bootleggers will be at George’s for Monster Mug Night.

You may have noticed that 4 Square Fine Art Gallery has moved from their location in the EJ Ball Building. They’re over here now, and they’re having their Grand Re-Opening Sunday.

There’s actually a lot more than that going on this weekend. Most of it is below. What are you guys doing this weekend?
