Restaurant Week: Best Chicken Fried Steak in Fayetteville

I like Sushi. I also love to head over to Bordino’s for a Goat Cheese Gnocchi with Smoked Duck Confit in an Arugula Pesto Cream Sauce and Craisins, but for someone from Prairie Grove, Arkansas, there is no meal more delicious than a chicken fried steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, and whatever canned vegetable (green beans, corn, peas, whatevs) someone decided to open and throw in a pot that day.

Could I get a roll with that? Butter and honey, please.

In honor of restaurant week, I’d like to present to you my top 4 places to get a Chicken Fried Steak (I just call them CFS’s) in Fayetteville, with a couple of Springdale honorable mentions.

Grease is good for the skin. Or the hair…something? Right?

1. Pop’s Old Time Bar-B-Que

504 E 15th St, Fayetteville | Map/Phone/Hours Pop’s is a little out of the way, down on E. 15th St. south of town, but it’s worth the drive. In addition to having a mean CFS, they also have some pretty freakin’ delicious BBQ, which is always a plus. Also, Chicken Fried Pork. Aw naw you didn’t.

2. The Rolling Pin Cafe

2565 E Huntsville Rd, Fayetteville | Map/Phone/Hours The Rolling Pin Cafe makes me realize that several of the good places to get a CFS in Fayetteville are also awesome places to get breakfast. They are also usually a good place to get pie. The Rolling Pin, or “The Pin,” as it is sometimes called, rulez. Sit in the tiny stools at the bar.

3. Mama Dean’s

1701 S School Ave, Fayetteville | Map/Phone/Hours Another common theme I’m noticing with this list is that if you want a good CFS, head south. Mama Dean’s is south of southtown in Fayetteville, and serves up an enormous CFS, complete with mashed potatoes, gravy, and sweet tea in a mason jar. Their menu is simple; choose a meat, two sides, and a desert for $9.99. You’ll probably take your desert to go.

4. Curt’s Place

2135 Main Dr, Fayetteville (Johnson) | Map/Phone/Hours I’m not even sure if CFS is on the menu at Curt’s Place, but it seems to be the lunch special every time I go in there. Curt’s Place also has amazing breakfast, and the burgers will freak you out. It is also located in a converted gas station, which somehow ads to the experience. It’s definitely the best reason to drive to Johnson.

Honorable Mention: Sprindale edition – Susan’s, Neal’s Cafe, (both of these would give the above a run for their money, but it’s Restaurant Week in Fayetteville, so, you know)

I’ve had a CFS in a lot of places in Fayetteville, and these are my top 4. If your favorite isn’t on the list, don’t freak out. Add it in the comments.

Where do you go for a cream gravy fix?
