Feltner Brothers to open on Dickson Street next week

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Friday, Oct 2, 2009

If you’ve grown up in Arkansas, chances are you’ve stopped at Feltner’s Whatta-Burger in Russellville at one point or another on the way to or from Little Rock for a burger, a shake, and maybe some onion rings.

Next week, three brothers, and the grandsons of the original Feltner who opened the legendary burger joint just off I-40 in Russellville will open up Feltner Brothers restaurant in Fayetteville, next to Flying Burrito on West Avenue. Feltner Brothers is not affiliated with the Russellville restaurant, other than the family connection.

Travis Feltner, his twin brother Chase, and their younger brother Grant will open the new restaurant that will specialize in Chicago-Style hot dogs, bratwursts, polish sausages, and of course, according to Travis, burgers, fries, and onion rings.

“We wanted to find something that no one else was doing in Fayetteville, and that’s why we’re doing the hot dogs, brats, and polish sausages.” Feltner said. “We’ll do hot dogs, and build them however you want with fresh, homemade ingredients.”

Feltner said his favorite menu item is the “Chili-Slaw Dog,” which is what it sounds like. A hot dog with chili, mustard, onions, and his grandmother’s homemade cole slaw.

“We’re calling it Ma’s Slaw.” Feltner said. “My grandma got a big kick out of that.”

Feltner Brothers will be located behind Pink Papaya, just across the railroad tracks from Powerhouse Seafood. They’ve built a large wooden deck for outdoor seating, that overlooks the tracks. And yes, they will serve beer.

Travis said they are shooting for an opening date of Thursday, October 8.
