Arkansas beats Texas A&M 47-19, wins first Southwest Classic

Ryan Malllett threw four touchdown passes, including three to Arkansas running backs, and the Arkansas’ defense showed up Saturday night in the brand new Texas Stadium to help the Hogs beat the Aggies 47-19 in the first ever Southwest Classic in Dallas.

Texas A&M jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but Arkansas scored 30 unanswered points to lead 30-10 at the half, and the Hogs never looked back.

The Aggies were undefeated, and boasting the top offense in the country coming into the game. But the Aggies had played 3 lower-tier teams to get to their 3-0 record coming into the Arkansas game Saturday night, and Willy Robinson’s defense was in the backfield pressuring A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson all night as Arkansas handed the Aggies their first loss of the season.

Ryan Mallett completed 17-27 passes for 271 yards and Joe Adams caught three passes for 110 yards to lead the Razorbacks. Ronnie Wingo also showed his explosiveness on a 62-yard run in the fourth quarter for a touchdown.

Next up, the Hogs will face another undefeated team when former Hog Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers come to town next week. Auburn is coming off a big road victory over Tennessee and are expected to crack the AP Top 25 this week coming into the game versus Arkansas.

The Auburn game will be televised by ESPN and will kick off at 11am on Saturday.
