To-do: Monday 11/16

It’s Monday, it’s raining and it’s kinda cold outside. Those are the three key ingredients in what I like to call “dump soup.” Gross.

Roots-rock legend Jay Farrar is back in town tonight with the rest of Son Volt at George’s Majestic Lounge. The band released a new record earlier this year and is currently touring in support. Surely Son Volt doesn’t need much more explanation around here, right? Tickets are $20 (general admission) and can be purchased at georgesmajesticlounge.com.

Over at Walton Arts Center, the Fulbright College department of music will feature the University of Arkansas Wind Symphony at 7:30pm. For those unfamiliar, the group is made up of 50-60 musicians who concentrate on the finest in band literature during the fall and spring semesters of the school year. They perform several concerts both on and off campus and have even performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Admission is $10 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and $1 for UA students.

Also tonight is the latest installment of Green Drinks at Smiling Jack’s. Green Drinks is an informal gathering for folks interested in any and all things “Green” to network and exchange ideas.
