To-do: Monday 11/23

  • By Todd Gill · Monday, Nov 23, 2009

Thanksgiving is just a few of days away and for most folks, that means a shortened work week. It’s time to finalize travel plans, figure out who’s cooking the turkey and decide whether or not Black Friday is something you’re willing to risk life and limb for.

It also means there’s a serious lack of local entertainment choices. Tonight is pretty much dominated by music-at-a-restaurant options. OK, so one is a hookah lounge and the other is a coffee shop, but still. You get it.

If that’s not your idea of a to-do, then you’re left with making it a brassworks night. Boston Mountain Brassworks is the faculty brass quintet of the University of Arkansas and they’re holding a concert tonight at 7:30 pm in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The’ll be performing works by James M. Stephenson, J.S. Bach, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Anthony Plog, Jean Joseph Mouret, Jukka Linkola, Bruce Broughton, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and Kevin McKee.

Still don’t have your evening planned? You could always check out the lights on the square, take a walk on the newly lit Scull Creek Trail or watch some football.

Checkit:

Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall: Boston Mountain Brassworks Recital 7:30 pm
Emelia’s Kitchen: Drew Packard Duo
JJ’s Grill n Chill: Keith Nicholson
Fez Hookah Lounge: Tory Cottingham
The Perk: Acoustic Jam
