To-do: Tuesday 12/8

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Let’s start with the benefit show.

Hey, I’m a poet and didn’t know I was. Wait…

In an effort to help rebuild the suffering standards of secondary education in northern Uganda due to 23 years of war, a non-profit program, Schools for Schools, holds an annual fundraiser. The event allows for schools to creatively compete against each other to raise money for a specific partner school in Uganda using a real-time, interactive website that tracks progress.

The University of Arkansas team is aiming to increase their 151st ranking by holding a benefit show tonight at 7pm at George’s Majestic Lounge with The Smithstonians, Lucio, DudeBro, and Dirty Dan & the Family Band.

It’s also a big day at the Walton Arts Center as they’re preparing to host The Rat Pack Is Back all week. The show recreates one of the famous “Summit at the Sands” Las Vegas hotel shows that featured Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and Joey Bishop. Tonight’s 7 pm show is the first of eight performances.

There’s live jazz at Scarpino’s, a rock show at Rogue and a piano recital at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

If you’d prefer to skip the music completely, here are three interesting options for the evening:

1. Over at Grub’s, you could not run five kilometers and help benefit the Fayetteville Independent Business Alliance.

2. You could Stitch-N-Bitch at the Lightbulb Club over some cocktails.

3. If you’re a poet, too, you could try and be the Last Poet Standing at Smiling Jack’s.
