Weekend To-do: March 12-14

For those of you who didn’t already know, I’m sad to be the one to tell you that this coming Sunday is the worst day of the year.

Why? Daylight freaking savings time. And not the awesome one. Not the one that keeps the bars open an hour later and allows you to sleep in an extra hour.

This is the lame one that will inevitably screw up your entire week next week because you won’t be able to get to sleep, but you still have to get up an hour earlier, which means for an entire week while your body adjusts you’ll be fumbling though a haze of exhaustion trying to get your work done.

Sure, we’ll have an extra hour of sun in the evenings, but at what cost?

If you can’t tell, I’m not a fan. Whatever. This weekend looks pretty awesome otherwise.

The baseball Razorbacks are in action at 3:05 today, opening a three-game series with Wisc.-Milwaukee at Baum Stadium.

Big Uns and Earl’s Garage are at George’s for happy hour, with Jarris and the Paper Tongues (Charlotte, NC) rocking late night. FYI, a Google image search for Big Uns will not return any pictures of the band. You get something else entirely. It may also get you fired.

Friday night, two pretty sweet Nashville bands are coming to town with Heypenny, and How I Became the Bomb at Lit. Heypenny has at least two members with Fayetteville connections.

We’ve heard great things about Jason Paul and the New Wine, and they’ll be at the Boom Boom Room Friday Night.

Matt and Gus Smith are at Greenhouse Grille, and Smoke and Barrel has Sarah Hughes.

Also Friday night, Arts Live Theatre presents the second night of Annie Jr at the UARK Bowl in case you missed it Thursday. More info on that is here.

Saturday night, how about some roller derby? The Backwoods Betties take on the ICT Roller Girls from Wichita, KS at the Starlight Skatium. Go Betties.

Beat Bachs is hosting a dance party for the peeps having withdrawals from the annual ones on New Year’s Eve, and Halloween. It’s at Speakeasy, and it happens to be Beat Bachs birthday. These guys go all out.

There’s an awesome show at Smoke and Barrel Saturday night. Slow Trucks from San Francisco, and Amo Joy from Indianapolis (They don’t do daylight savings at all there. Did you know that?) are stopping in on their way to SXSW. Locals Guta will also be rocking. Slow Trucks has been freaking me out with awesomeness this morning.

On Sunday, everything starts an hour earlier than you think it does, which means you’ll probably be late. Stupid daylight savings time.
