NAMA 2010 nominees announced

What would we do without our local musicians? Sure, they get to party like rock-stars most of the time, and sure, they get all the chicks (or dudes, or whatever).

But if you ask me, the musicians in this town can never get enough recognition for making certain that every night of the week, we have an excuse to put on our beer-hats, and our drinking shirts, and our dancing shoes, and our sexy underpants for some rocking and/or rolling at our favorite nightspots. Our events calendar and daily to-do’s would be pretty dull without them.

Today, a bunch of local musicians will get at least some of the recognition they deserve, as the fine folks at the Northwest Arkansas Music Awards announced their 2010 nominees for the 15th annual awards ceremony, to be held at the Dickson Theater on Thursday, April 29.

There are 21 categories this year to vote in, including album of the year, band of the year, and best new band. We noticed the inclusion of a Punk category this year, which wasn’t around last year. The rest of the categories are pretty similar to what they’ve been in years past.

Wade Ogle & Black Elk, The Declaration, LaFuSo and Randall Shreve will play at the award show this year, and Arkansas music historian Bob Cochran, along with KUAF’s Kyle Kellams, will emcee the event.

To vote, you gotta register first, then go for it.

What do you guys think of this year’s nominees? Any glaring omissions? Who are your favorites for this year?
