Weekend To-do: April 9-11

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Friday, Apr 9, 2010

Do yourself a quick favor, and find the nearest exit of whatever building you’re in, open the door, and breath in as much of this unbelievably gorgeous spring air as you possibly can.

Unless of course, you are allergic to pollen. If that’s the case, sorry dudes. I feel for you.

Regardless, there’s nary a cloud in the 10-day forecast in Fayetteville, with temperatures in the 70s every single day. Even if you’re allergic, you can appreciate that, right? Weekend!

If you haven’t seen TheatreSquared’s production of Mauritius at Nadine Baum Studios, you’re running out of chances. In fact, you have exactly four more chances. The last show is on Sunday.

Friday night, Cletus Got Shot is rocking Smoke & Barrel, and 14-year-old guitar virtuoso Sean Key will open the show.

Earl Cate & Jimmy Nace will sit in with Oreo Blue at George’s for happy hour, and later on, A Good Fight and Calling Tokyo will be in the garden. Ultra Suede will be in the lounge.

If you missed the Bearfoot performance last night at the Walton Arts Center, you’ve got a couple more chances to see them. If you need convincing, you can check out Dgold’s video of them performing in the studio at KXUA.

On Farmers’ Market Saturday, week two starts on the Fayetteville square at 7 a.m. Get down there.

After that, Trade-A-Book is happening at the NWA Mall from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Kids from preschool to Jr. High can bring a book can bring a book they are finished with and trade it for a new one.

If you feel like doing a little community service, you could help out with a clean up at either Scull Creek Trail or Lake Fayetteville.

If you feel like some bacon, maybe you should stop by Agri Park. Saturday is Bacon Day, starting at 2 p.m.

There’s a big hip-hop show at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night, with Lucio, Epiphany, Gina Gee, DJ Shortfuse, and more for Grown Folks Night.

Finally, George’s has acoustic guitar hero Monte Montgomery on Saturday night. He’s a freak. (In a radass kind of way).

Sunday night is gonna be awesome. First of all, Heartless Bastards are back in town for a free show at George’s for Monster Mug Night. When they were here with Jenny Lewis last time, they were badass. Wade Ogle and Black Elk open.

Dana Falconberry (Austin, TX) is at Smoke & Barrel Sunday night (also a free show) with Memphis Pencils and Wighead (Tulsa, OK).

Finally, The Rox are at LIT for Jody’s Living Room open mic night. There’s free pizza while it lasts.

That’s just about half of it. What are you guys doing this weekend?
