First Thursday looking for local artists

  • By Todd Gill · Tuesday, Apr 13, 2010

The Fayetteville Visitors Bureau this morning announced a call to all local artists interested in participating in a streetside art walk program that will be held on the square during the monthly First Thursday events from now through November.

Traditionally, First Thursday was an inside event based out of Fayetteville Underground and ddp gallery, but has recently expanded out onto East Avenue and the Town Center Plaza.

The new streetside art walk program provides the opportunity for artists not featured in one of the galleries on the square to showcase their work during the monthly event.

Jessica Edwards, communications manager for the bureau, said artists will be selected through an open application process followed by a juried review and that all genres will be considered, given that the works are original and completely created by the artist. “This is not a flea market or craft fair,” reads the online application.

According to a press release issued this morning, artwork that includes “graphic content such as nudity or violence” will not be considered.

Any artist interested in submitting work must apply by the 20th of each month in order to be considered for the following month’s art walk. If accepted, a $20 setup fee must be paid in advance.

Applications are being accepted online at the First Thursday website. Additionally, a downloadable application is available that can be emailed to [email protected].

For more information, visit firstthursdayfayetteville.com or call the Fayetteville Visitors Bureau at 479-521-5776.
