Thursday To-do: April 29

  • By Todd Gill · Thursday, Apr 29, 2010

Tonight belongs to the 15th annual Northwest Arkansas Music Awards. At least for a while. Afterwards, you’re on your own.

So what’s a normal night at the NAMAs like? That all depends on whether you’re there to cross your fingers or just to kick it.

If you’re hoping to win an award, that means you’re a musician of some kind. You probably wail on guitar. Or hold down the rhythm. Or maybe you’re just that guy behind the gigantic alien head bongo. Either way, you get to ride in a limo. For two and a half blocks.

If the limo ride sounds like your kind of party, make sure you’re in front of the Walton Arts Center at around 6:15 p.m. Flash your pass to the driver and the next two and a half minutes are yours for the taking. You’ll breeze past Condom Sense and Shotz with your nose held high and just before you can say, “Dudes, we’ve finally made it,” you’ll be stepping out onto the red carpet at the Dickson Theater.

Lioneld Jordan, NAMA ’09

From there, you’re just a CAT TV interview away from tons of free food.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe it’s Dgold of Honest Tunes who’s doing the interviews. Bonus.

No thanks on the limo? No big deal. Just park and walk like everyone else.

If you’re not in a band, that means one of two things. 1) You’re sleeping with the drummer or 2) You’re Lioneld Jordan.

I can’t speak for the mayor, but if you aren’t in a band, bring $10. This year’s event benefits the Northwest Arkansas Free Health & Dental Clinic.

The 2010 showcase bands (live performers) are Wade Ogle and The Mad Spirits, Nate Hancock & The Declaration, LaFuSo and Randall Shreve.

Honestly, folks. The NAMAs are a blast and are an annual reminder of how great it is to live in a city that has plenty of live music options seven days a week. Plus, this year’s nominees are fantastic and we can’t wait to see everyone there.

If you appreciate Fayetteville’s live music scene and want to show some love, here’s your chance.

Party starts at 8. See you there?
