Late-night Mexican restaurant and tequila bar coming to Dickson St.

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Wednesday, May 5, 2010

In possibly the most Cinco de Mayo appropriate news ever, we learned recently that Fayetteville will be getting itself a new tequila bar and Mexican restaurant soon.

Partners Lee Scarlett, along with Edgar and Meliton Montez (La Huerta) plan to open El Sancho Mexican Grill and Tequila Bar in the old Railhead Saloon building at 550 W. Dickson Street in late May.

According to Scarlett, the plan is to serve food until 3 a.m. on the weekends, and the tequila bar will carry over 100 different types of tequila.

“I think a lot of people will be really excited about a true tequila bar,” Scarlett said. “Plus, who wouldn’t want fajitas or chimichangas after the bars close?”

El Sancho will also book live music on the weekends, and the restaurant has worked out a deal with the parking lot owner to offer free parking during lunch.

The name, El Sancho, is a reference to Don Quixote character Sancho Panza. A local artist is currently working on a mural of Quixote and Panza inside the restaurant.

Scarlett said that they’ve covered part of the patio, and that renovations are nearing completion on the interior of the building. The goal is to have everything ready to go before Memorial Day.
