Video: Bike to Work Week Proclamation

  • By Todd Gill · Monday, May 17, 2010

In front of the Town Center today, Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan read a proclamation recognizing the week of May 17 as Bike to Work Week.

Shortly after, a group of cyclists led by Matt Mihalevich, the City’s Trails Coordinator, departed the square and headed to Mellow Mushroom Pizza via Scull Creek Trail.

Representatives from the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks spoke about the Bicycle Commuter Challenge that is taking place this week. The event helps promote bicycle commuting by encouraging employees, management and owners to use bicycles to get to work. It’s a friendly competition where groups have a chance to win prizes and recognition.

The City of Fayetteville is participating in the Bike to Work Week Challenge. City employees are competing with businesses, non-profits, and government entities across Northwest Arkansas to determine who logs the most commuter miles on bikes.
