Weekend To-do: June 4-6

It’s been a short week, which is good. Weeks with four days in them are almost always better than weeks with five days in them almost any week of the year.

There are a few drawbacks to four day weeks, though. Sometimes, even though a week only has four days in it, the amount of work that needs to be done in said week does not decrease from the weeks with five days in them. Then, you end up having to cram those five days of work into four days of work, making those four days feel like about 1,000 days. I don’t know about you guys, but this week punched me in the butt cheek with its fist. Big time.

The good news is, it’s Friday, and that means that there’s only a few more hours of this nonsense before the weekend starts around 5:00 p.m. Thank. God.

This weekend, there’s also a little music festival going on down the road near Ozark, Arkansas that some of you might have heard of. It’s called Wakarusa and it’s in its second year here in Arkansas. There are 150 bands, a carnival, and about 15,000 people. For more on that, including schedules, tweets, pictures, maps, etc, visit our Wakarusa page. If you don’t have tickets already, though, you’re out of luck; the festival is completely sold out.

If that’s not your thing, maybe you wanna see some sports? Today at 2:00 p.m. the Razorback baseball team enter the last leg on their quest for Omaha when they take on Grambling in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Baum Stadium. As my friend Lincoln would write if he were writing this, GAWGS!

Tunes-wise in town, maybe you should check out David Kimbrough Jr. and Stacey Mackey at Smoke & Barrel Friday night.

Oklahoma City singer/songwriter Carter Sampson is at Greenhouse Grille Friday night. She’s related to Roy Orbison, which is awesome, but more promising is the quote we found about her from Ryan Adams, “Awesome singer, awesome songwriter. Highly f#cking recommended.” Ok.

Big’uns are at George’s for happy hour, and there’s an acoustic show at The GROJ with Maribelle, who are in town from Chicago. Another acoustic act or two are expected to be added to this one. Maybe Stuart can fill us in?

On Saturday, consider getting down to the Farmers’ Market early. It’s gonna be a hot one.

There will be more Hog baseball at some point on Saturday, but that kind of depends on how we do Friday night. If you go, wear some sunscreen, and don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Saturday night, maybe you should check out Underclaire at Rogue. They’re from Little Rock. Fools for Rowan is also on the bill, and will headline the show.

If you missed it last weekend, there are still monkeys in costume, demolition derbies, freak show deluxes, and all kinds of other weird things going on at the Ozark Mountain Fair at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

There are also Walmart people everywhere, which means there’s a chance that you can high five Jamie Foxx, Harry Connick Jr., Mariah Carey, Enrique Iglesias, or some other celebrity out on the street. Actually, I’ve got $8 for anyone who high fives Enrique Iglesias this weekend, and can prove it.

Do whatever you want. It’s the weekend.
