It’s Wednesday. Almost everybody spells it correctly, but not everybody says it the same way. For example, that guy down the hall from South Arkansas probably says Winz-Dee. The nerdy IT guy likes to call it Wedd-Nezz-Day to try and be clever. If your secretary is anything like the one at my old workplace, you’ll be getting a morning email any minute now that says Hump Day somewhere in it. I was going to suggest we change it to Unnecessary D-Day, but the awkward WWII connotations suggest otherwise. Guess we’re stuck with Wednesday.
George’s has a big show tonight. Ohio’s Lovedrug, who just released a new EP last week, are in town. Bear Colony opens that one.
If you don’t mind squeezing into the GROJ, tonight’s multimedia performance sounds interesting. Film, video, and new media artists Thomas Comerford and Sabine Gruffat & Bill Brown are bringing their Event Horizons tour to town. Click some of those links before you write this one off.
The Fayetteville Public Library continues its Fantasy Fanatics series this evening with historian Chet Cornell, who will present “We Only Smell Bad on the Outside: An Introduction to Sci-fi/Fantasy Culture in America,” a discussion of how sci-fi fans transformed American culture. Geeks unite at 6:30 p.m. in the Transporter Chamber Walker Community Room.
Rather dance? FIX is celebrating Commonwealth Pharmacy Day with Nicholas Scott. What, you don’t celebrate pharmacists?
Elsewhere, Tyrannosaurus Chicken is at Smoke & Barrel, there’s a giant metal show at Drifter’s, and the grand opening of Doc Mashburn Park kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at – you guessed it – Doc Mashburn Park.
