Monday To-do: July 5

Is anybody else at work today? From the looks of it out there, the answer is a giant, silent no. Congrats, you’ve got a sweet job. Maybe.

Kris Allen, winner of the eighth season of American Idol, will be back in his home state to play here in Fayetteville at George’s this evening.

His early cover of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” was a turning point for his chances on the show. It wasn’t his best performance, but Simon Cowell approved and told Allen, “I think the chicks are going to dig you.” That couldn’t have hurt.

Allen’s from Conway, but has Fayetteville ties. He married the 2007 University of Arkansas Homecoming Queen after proposing to her on the Fayetteville square. There’s something more to that engagement story, but much to the disappointment of my wife – who’s told it to me about a dozen times – I can’t remember it this morning.

Tickets are $25. Get ’em here.
