City and university looking for frat house arson suspect

The University of Arkansas Police Department, in cooperation with the Fayetteville Fire Department, is searching for a suspect in an arson case at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house on the UA campus.

It was reported Sunday that firefighters responded to the house at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday for a fire that was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

On Monday, reports started popping up that the UAPD was calling the fire “suspicious” and that they’d be investigating deeper.

Finally, video footage was released yesterday that shows a man purchasing a gas can at Wal-Mart last Friday then pouring gas from the can inside the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house later that evening.

Anyone with information of the possible identity of the suspect is asked to contact the University Police Department Investigative Services at 479-575-2222 or Battalion Chief Terry Lawson of the Fayetteville Fire Marshal’s Office at 479-718-7639.
