Giveaway: The Glitch Mob, Cornmeal at George’s

This giveaway is now closed. We’ll notify the winners soon. Once they’ve responded to accept their prize, we’ll post the winners on our blog.

Remember when Bob Dylan went electric and everyone freaked out?

San Francisco-based trio The Glitch Mob did something similar this summer (well, sort of), when the group made up of renowned DJ’s, Justin Boreta, Ed Ma (Edit), and Josh Mayer (Ooah) took the stage in the Coachella Sahara Tent with guitars, bass, and electronic drums instead of laptops.

“I think we just wanted to try new stuff. We had done the laptop thing, and I think we just wanted to do this as musicians,” Ooah told Consequence of Sound back in May.

The difference was that there was little backlash over the Glitch Mob’s transformation. The band still managed to maintain their hip-hop-influenced electronic sound, even while they pushed the boundaries of it with their debut album, “Drink the Sea” released in May of this year.

In fact, if the videos on YouTube of the band playing Coachella with their new setup are any indication, people freaked out about The Glitch Mob’s new stage setup in good way.

They just returned to the states after a European tour earlier this summer, and will be in town on August 26 for a show at George’s with Chicago bluegrass band Cornmeal.

Cornmeal has been around for more than 10 years, spending more than half their time on the road every year playing their high-energy brand of bluegrass for audiences all over the country. They’ve been a fixture on the festival circuit, and were in the area in 2009 for Wakarusa.

They’ll also be at Yonder Mountain String Band Harvest Festival later this summer.

The show on the 26th is basically a double headliner show with two great national acts splitting two stages for the price of one, and we’ve got two sets of tickets to give away. Try to win them!

How to enter
Have you ever missed a show in town for some reason, and then kicked yourself for it later? Maybe you were broke when your favorite band came to town. Maybe you hadn’t heard of the band when they were in town, but they became your favorite band later, and your friend said, “Oh, you like them. There were at George’s last summer. Did you see them?” Ouch.

Leave a comment naming a show in town that you can’t believe you missed, and you’re entered. If you’ve never missed a show that you wanted to see (respect), or you just can’t think of one, just say so, and you’re entered.
