Monday To-Do: Aug. 16

  • By Todd Gill · Monday, Aug 16, 2010

If the city’s plans didn’t take any unexpected detours at the last minute, the three parking lots that surround the Walton Arts Center will require payment later this morning. Yes, today’s the day.

If you live in that area, you’ve got a couple of more days to grab your residential parking passes. Officials said last week that the street parking will remain free for a few more days while workers continue to install pay stations.

Weather-wise, things are looking a bit better for today. It’s set to stay in the 70s this morning and should only get into the low 90s this afternoon. Compared to last week, that should be somewhat welcoming.

If you’re into metal, there’s a big show at George’s tonight with Shadows Fall from Springfield, MA. If you’re an Ozzy Osbourne fan, make sure to request Shadows Fall’s cover of “Bark at the Moon.” It’s streaming on their MySpace page, FYI. Locals The Battle Within and Chemical Discipline open the show.

Feeling political? Stop by Sequoyah United Methodist Church tonight at 7 p.m. for the Mayor’s Town Hall Meeting. It’s a prime opportunity to ask questions (or yell at someone) about paid parking.

There’s a wine tasting at Ella’s and a handful of musicians playing at other restaurants around town tonight.

If none of that sounds good, you could start counting down the days until the UA is back in session. Of course, many of the students are already here. One of them updated his Facebook status with this last night:

broke my foot ….life is crazy son 4real..lmao…

Here’s a list:

Monday, August 16, 2010
Sequoyah United Methodist: Town Hall Meeting
JJ’s Grill n Chill: Tim Meitzen
Ella’s: Wine Tasting: Wines of Oregon
Powerhouse: Maud Crawford
The Perk: Open Acoustic Jam
Pesto Cafe: Darren Ray
George’s: Shadows Fall /The Battle Within / Chemical Discipline
US Pizza Co: Teddy & The Phosphenes
