Thursday To-Do: Aug. 19

Today is Thursday which means it’s your last chance to hear some grumping around the office (or classroom). Once Friday hits, it’s all about finishing up projects and getting ready for some chillaxing.

So what can you expect to hear today?

Your sports friends will still be arguing about hatgate. One of them will complain that 40/29‘s reporter was the only one to ask Bobby Petrino about it at practice yesterday. The argument will then switch to whether or not hatgate is even worth arguing about at all.

Your with-kids friends will be complaining about the first day of school (today). Some will throw out the usual “gotta get used to this again” business. Others will be cursing city officials for re-paving roads on the first day of school. What they don’t know is that Mission Blvd. is a state highway, not a city street.

Finally, your geeky friends will be furious over the fact that Facebook launched its highly anticipated “Places” feature last night. What’s wrong with “Places?” Nothing. It just doesn’t work in Fayetteville yet.

You can join in on the energy resource debate tonight if you want by attending a free screening of “Gasland” at the UA Global Campus on the square. The Sundance award-winning documentary explores the consequences of natural gas drilling. Believe it or not, some people would prefer that their drinking water not be flammable. Josh Fox, the film’s producer will be there. Will you?

As for music, Tyrannosaurus Chicken is at Smoke & Barrel, Shulertown is at George’s, there are DJ’s at Rogue, and it’s a party on the patio at Powerhouse.
