Tuesday To-Do: Aug. 24

  • By Todd Gill · Tuesday, Aug 24, 2010

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for some news. Non-Fayetteville news, that is.

Remember how Joaquin Phoenix freaked out last year? If you called BS and thought he was pulling a fast one, you win. He was.

This Sunday marks the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the city of New Orleans’ new levee system is about a year away from completion. Unfortunately, some say the $15 billion barrier made up of 350 miles of levees, flood walls, gates and pumps still isn’t enough to protect the city should another massive storm hit. Yikes.

Finally, have you been meaning to block Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg? I hope not.

Hey, if you woke up this morning and decided you want to run for city council here in Fayetteville, today’s your last chance to file. Just thought I’d throw that out there. Here’s some info if you’re feeling it.

If you’re a fan of Fayetteville’s trail system, consider stopping by the ribbon cutting for the new children’s art kiosks this afternoon at the Scull Creek entrance at Wilson Park. A few of the children whose art is on display will be in attendance. Starts at 4 p.m.

Tonight’s concert at the AMP features singer/songwriter/guitarist Colbie Caillat. She’s released a couple of pop/country albums in the past few years, but she’s also won some awards. Ever heard of the Grammys? She won two of ’em recently for her collaborations with Taylor Swift and Jason Mraz. Tickets start at $20 and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

There’s other stuff happening tonight, too. Like an outdoor movie at the Greek Theater, live jazz at Scarpino’s, Mixx Tenn at Rogue, and a Colbie Caillat after-party throwdown at George’s.

List:

Tuesday, August 24, 2010
Wilson Park: Trail art kiosk ribbon cutting
Fayetteville Public Library: Solar Project Discussion
Arts Live Theatre: Bang, Bang You’re Dead Auditions
Herman’s Ribhouse: Pope County Bootleggers
JJ’s Grill n Chill: Jeff Fox
Jose’s: Lil Hoojin
Teatro Scarpino: Live jazz
AMP: Colbie Caillat
George’s: Goose
UA Greek Theater: Outdoor Movie: Slumdog Millionaire
Rogue: Open mic / Mixx Tenn
