Thursday To-Do: Sept. 2

There are all sorts of ways to celebrate the rain. You could take part in elaborate dance rituals, you could learn and recite lengthy religious hymns, or if you’re brave enough, you could lasso a water dragon and ride it high into the night sky.

If it’s fun you’re after, I’d suggest the water dragon option, but in case you can’t track one down on such a short notice, there’s a ton of things to do in town tonight that’ll make for a great backup plan.

Today

For starters, don’t forget that it’s First Thursday on the Fayetteville Square. Here’s our monthly guide for that one. No matter what your list looks like for the evening, First Thursday should be at the top. It shouldn’t interfere much, either. It’s early.

There’s a good show at Maxine’s at around 9:30 p.m. with locals Egyptr, Niall and F*#k-Tards. If you want to hit this one up, grab some dinner on the square after First Thursday and then walk on down. Cover is $5.

Over at the Walton Arts Center, Blue Man Group begins a run through September 11, but it’s sold out so if you don’t have tickets, pretend you didn’t read this. If you do have tickets, don’t forget about your tickets, man.

Just across the street at Nadine Baum Studios, TheatreSquared’s Pay-What-You-Can Preview of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps is at 7:30 p.m. Also, don’t forget about the Kyle Kellams-hosted Hitchcock Trivia during First Thursday at 8 p.m. on the square.

Out at the AMP, STS9 and Ghostland Observatory will laser light show your face and ears off. Grab some tickets if you haven’t yet.

There’s a lot more including a couple of new business grand openings on Block Ave. (Bfit and Twang & Twig) as well as a couple of after parties for both First Thursday (Smoke & Barrel) and STS9 (George’s).
