Bicycle Coalition hosts benefit for Safe Routes to School program

The Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks is hosting a fundraiser for their Safe Routes to School program at the Omni Center for Peace, Justice, and Ecology tonight (Friday, Sept. 3).

The fundraiser will feature live music, refreshments, and artwork created from the wheels of bicycles by local artists available for purchase via a silent auction, and all of the money raised will go towards completing the fundraising requirements for the BCO’s bicycle education programs in Fayetteville elementary schools.

The BCO will launch their new education program this month, and will begin visiting PE classes for 3rd-5th grade students in all nine elementary schools in Fayetteville to promote healthier living and to help combat childhood obesity.

A Bike Ed curriculum has also been developed to teach children how to ride more safely, as well as to provide parents with the tools and knowledge to feel comfortable encouraging their kids to ride their bikes to school.

Winners of the Wheels art pieces during the silent auction this eventing will be honored as contributors to the Bike Ed program at a Gala scheduled for May of this year.
