Maudie Schmitt elected chair of Fayetteville A&P Commission

Maudie Schmitt, a member of the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission and owner of Cafe Rue Orleans, was elected chair of the commission by a unanimous vote during Monday’s A&P meeting.

The position was left vacant when Tim Freeman resigned in April, and has been temporarily filled by Mayor Lioneld Jordan for the past five months.

Jordan wasted no time it turning over the chair after the verbal votes were cast. “Are you in, Brandon?” said the mayor to commissioner Brandon Karn, to confirm a unanimous vote. “Yes,” answered Karn.

“Well, Maudie, here you go,” said Jordan as he stood and offered his seat to the new chair. “I wish you well in your new position.”

Schmitt was nominated by fellow A&P member Bob Davis. No other commissioners were nominated.

“Does this mean a pay raise?” joked Schmitt.

“Yes! Double what you used to make,” chimed in City Attorney Kit Williams to a room full of laughter.

A&P commissioners are unpaid volunteers for the City of Fayetteville.
