Wednesday To-do: Sept. 22

  • By Todd Gill · Wednesday, Sep 22, 2010

Though it won’t have much of an effect on the options listed our daily to-do’s, there were some changes made to the paid parking plan last night that should make things easier on the Dickson Street lunch crowd.

Beginning Oct. 1, paid parking on the streets and in the city lots won’t start until 2 p.m. Previously, enforcement started at 10 a.m.

It’s not as much as what the business owners asked for, but maybe it will provide some relief to those who say paid parking has killed daytime business in the area.

In other news, the school millage passed by about 55 percent. When last year’s increase failed overwhelmingly, those who took surveys said it was the cost that they couldn’t handle. Yesterday’s vote asked for only about half of the original amount, so maybe it truly was cost resistance last year.

Today

Considering the above news, there will be some celebrating and some mourning tonight in Fayetteville. Whatever side of that you’re on, there’s plenty to do.

The Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks will host a family bicycle ride and helmet giveaway this evening. Riders should meet at the Wilson Park castle at 5 p.m. Helmets will be available for anyone who needs one. The ride will head down Scull Creek Trail to the OMNI Center for the final night of the WHEELS art exhibit.

FIX has BEATpUNKS and Diamond Life from OKC tonight. Tune into KXUA 88.3FM ( or listen online at kxua.edu ) at 8pm for a pre-FIX sampling of what to expect. Host DJ EJ will be spinning mixes by the Oklahoma DJs.

Smoke & Barrel has a trivia night and there’s a pre-homcoming party on the UA campus near the union.

If it’s music you’re after, Effron White and Richard Hartrick are at U.S. Pizza, Dave Malm is at Greenhouse Grille, Jed Clampit’s at George’s, and Jeff Pratt’s at JJ’s.
