Sarah Colonna, DJ Pretty Paul to play Strut For a Mutt Saturday, Oct. 16

  • By Dustin Bartholomew · Tuesday, Oct 12, 2010

Of all the animals in the universe, there are no animals (outside of monkeys and giraffes) more awesome than dogs.

Dogs are always excited to see you. They are furry. They are hilarious. They just want to lick your face.

The folks at Lola Boutique and Luxe Beauty have teamed up once again to raise money for some of the most incredible animals in the world with the 4th Annual Strut For a Mutt fashion show and fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16 at Starlight Skatium.

Chelsea Lately writer and comedian Sarah Colonna (who is apparently from Farmington) will perform a 30 minute stand-up set and will host the evening’s festivities. Also, New York City DJ Pretty Paul along with local favorite DJ Shortfuze will be spinning records for the event, there will be models parading shelter dogs that are up for adoption down the runway, a fashion show, along with the three D’s of happiness: drinks, dancing and dogs.

Jade Terminella, one of the organizers of the event, said it has been extremely successful in years past.

“Last year, I think every dog in the show ended up getting adopted,” Terminella said. “We’re really hoping to raise awareness about how great shelter dogs are, and let people know that there’s no reason to be buying and breeding animals.”

In the last three years, Terminella estimated that the event has raised over $20,000 for The Fayetteville Animal Shelter and Spay Arkansas. She’s hoping for a great turnout this year as well, largely because Spay Arkansas is about $20,000 from reaching their goal they’ll need to open a low cost spay and neuter clinic in the area.

“We’re really trying to get that opened,” she said. “At the shelter’s current capacity, they can only perform 2-4 surgeries a day. We’re hoping to be able to spay or neuter around 35 animals a day. Something like that would be a huge step toward reducing the homeless animal population in the area.”

Tickets to the event are $50, tables for 6 are $500 each, and all of the proceeds of the event will be split between the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and Spay Arkansas.
