Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas Hosts Largest Crowd to Date at Golftoberfest 2010

(Fayetteville, AR) Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas (SPSF NWA) hosted its annual Golftoberfest fundraising event Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Gator Golf in Fayetteville. Golftoberfest 2010, presented by Splenda, is Northwest Arkansas’s original miniature golf tournament that raises funds and awareness for SPSF NWA. More than $6,600 was raised through local business sponsors and team registrants for the two-flight tournament.

Over 200 supporters attended Golftoberfest 2010 as golfers or volunteers, including SPSF NWA scholarship recipients, graduates and their children. This fun, family-friendly event offered a festival type atmosphere with lunch sponsored and served by Liberty Bank of Arkansas, kettle corn popped on site by Old Tyme Foods, and extra activities for children. Golftoberfest also serves as a Make a Difference Day project for the University of Arkansas, and approximately 20 U of A students volunteered at the event.

Each golfer and participant took home the official 2010 Golftoberfest t-shirt and two goody bags! Teams were awarded prizes for first, second and third place positions in both flights.

Flight 1:
1st Place- Coleson Burns’ Team
2nd Place- Bank of Fayetteville
3rd Place- Splenda

Flight 2:
1st Place- Walmart Replenishment Team
2nd Place- Beavers and Broomfield Family Dentistry
3rd Place- Dave Bowman’s Team

First place teams walked away with the coveted Golftoberfest bobble head trophies, and all winning teams were awarded prizes donated by local businesses and supporters. Golfers with a hole-in-one were awarded miniature cars, and Splenda presented extra prizes to those closest to the pin.

Founded in 1984, Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas, Inc. helps single parents build better, brighter futures by providing encouragement and access to higher education. Each year SPSF NWA awards over $300,000 in scholarships to more than 100 recipients to help them pay for their education and related living expenses. The average GPA of a SPSF NWA scholarship recipient is 3.16 and more than 80% of SPSF NWA graduates obtain gainful employment within six months of graduation.
