Fayetteville police arrest bank robbery suspect

Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor today announced that the Fayetteville Police Department has arrested one subject in connection to an armed robbery at a local bank.

At approximately 2:17 p.m. Friday afternoon, the Fayetteville Police Department responded to an alarm at First Security Bank, 11 North College, for a report of a robbery. Officers arrived on scene at approximately 2:20 p.m. where employees reported a masked male suspect had entered the bank, placed a box on the counter, stated it was an explosive device, and demanded money. The suspect left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

From the news release:

Within 15 minutes, the suspect was located at Block Avenue and Meadow Street with items in his possession related to the robbery. No explosive device was located.

Garry Lee McKnight, 53, of Fayetteville, was arrested for aggravated robbery.

Tabor said the investigation is continuing.
