Helicopter lands at Butterfield Trail Elementary

A helicopter from the Missouri National Guard landed at Butterfield Trail Elementary School Wednesday morning as part of the school’s Veteran’s Day observance program.

The aircraft landed in a field behind the school shortly after 9 a.m. Needless to say, the crowd of students on hand to watch the landing were very excited.

The kids chanted “U.S.A.” for a few minutes before someone spotted the helicopter over the trees just north of the school. The chanting quickly turned into cheering. And pointing. And jumping.

Can you really blame them? A helicopter never landed at my elementary school.

After the engines were turned off, each class was escorted across the field to have a look inside and meet the pilots.

One of the pilots, Bill Warren, is the parent of a Butterfield student.

Below are some photos and video of this morning’s landing.
