Walmart pharmacy coming to Garland Center on UA campus

  • By Todd Gill · Monday, Nov 22, 2010

Another soon-to-be tenant was announced today for the newly built Garland Center on the University of Arkansas campus.

In January, Walmart will open a retail pharmacy that will serve both UA students and anyone else in the area.

The new Walmart on Campus will replace the 26-year-old Pat Walker Health Center Pharmacy, which is closing Dec. 20.

“The Pat Walker Health Center anticipates a close working relationship with the Walmart on Campus,” said Mary Alice Serafini, executive director of the Pat Walker Health Center. “We believe that the new retail pharmacy will serve our community well with extended hours, access to most prescription insurance plans and close proximity to our health center facility and many on-campus residents.”

Located in the north end of the Garland Center, Walmart on Campus will serve as a full-service pharmacy as well as provide a variety of groceries and other items. This will be Walmart’s first store of its kind.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the university and to bring a great place for the students and the surrounding community to purchase prescriptions and other items,” said Keith Keltner, associate marketing manager with Walmart.

Other shops that have recently opened in the new center are the UA Bookstore, 3 Spoons Yogurt and Belle Boutique.
