Chicago’s famed Second City returns to Walton Arts Center

Northwest Arkansas (November 23, 2010) – On Saturday, December 11, Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre The Second City will appear at Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Hall at 6pm and 9pm. Returning for a fifth time, The Second City will perform their Dysfunctional Holiday Revue, which delivers a healthy dose of seasonal satire with holiday film classics, family gatherings, improvised Christmas Carols, even Joseph and Mary – nothing is too sacred for a show that is the perfect alternative to the same old holiday shows. Tickets range from $23 to $33 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.

The Second City: Improv for Actors class will take place 11am-1pm on Saturday, December 11 in Walton Arts Center’s Starr Theater. Tickets are $25. Taught by Second City actors, this class is perfect for college level improvisers or actors who want to use improvisational techniques to support their text work. For more information, visit http://waltonartscenter.org/classes_camps_and_workshops.

Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy world’s best and brightest. Their alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, as it includes: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Stiles and countless others.

Not only will an evening with The Second City provide audiences with the chance to see comedy stars in the making, but they will also have the opportunity to see hilarious satire and cutting-edge improvisation – all with a special holiday slant. It’s a fast-paced, interactive comedy revue filled with style and wit – where even Rudolph is fair game. For more information about the The Second City, visit www.secondcity.com.

Second City is part of the Coca-Cola® Night Out Series with media support from KNWA News. For more information about this performance or others, contact the Walton Arts Center Box Office by calling 479.443.5600 or by visiting waltonartscenter.org.
