Reminder: The city will not pick up leaves in plastic bags

If you haven’t already raked and removed all the leaves from your yard, don’t forget that the city won’t take them unless they’re in the proper containers.

Leaves are to be placed in 30-gallon paper bags purchased at local retail stores or in unlined trash cans marked “yard waste.” Just place the bags (or cans) by the street with the rest of your trash.

Collection of leaves and other yard waste takes place on the same day as regular trash and recycling pickup and is free of charge.

Leaves in plastic bags will not be picked up.

Information on “backyard composting” for leaves is available by calling Brian Pugh at 718-7685 or through e-mail at [email protected].
