Whenever I say, “It’s the weekend, do whatever you want,” I don’t mean that literally.
Doing whatever you want, if you want to do illegal things, will land you in the pokey.
“Do whatever you want,” at least as I mean it, does not include inflicting harm on others, including but not limited to wedgies, swirlies, snuggies, Indian burns, wet willies, punching people, kicking, or any other annoyance. It also doesn’t include crime like fraud, forgery, drunk driving, or murder and it certainly does not prevent pregnancy or STD’s or anything.
That said, it is the weekend. Do whatever you want (within reason).
Friday
You might have been asking yourself, ‘”who is at George’s for happy hour, anyway?” The Nace Brothers are in the lounge at 6 p.m., The Odds are in the garden, and the first 100 people park for free. Later on, Silverstone and Signum AD will be rocking.
It’s a good weekend to see a play, and there are three good ones showing in town. Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!) is at Nadine Baum Studios, Ceramic Cow’s I’m Dreaming of A Dupont Christmas is at UARK Ballroom, and if you’re feeling like a musical, Young Frankenstein is at the Walton Arts Center.
There’s a big show at Maxine’s Friday night with Memphis Pencils, Westfolk (Nashville), and a new band called Swimming featuring members of Niall and Where’s Lawrence. The Memphis Pencils released another track via their bandcamp page yesterday, FYI.
Also, if you like Tyrannosaurus Chicken, and I think you do, you’ll be happy to know that they are at Smoke & Barrel Friday night.
Saturday
It’s been a while, but David’s Pegasus is back town with a new lineup for a show at The Lightbulb Club. TIMBER! is also back in town, and are on the bill. Reunion!
Speakeasy is back in town for a show at George’s, but as far as I know, they never lived here. They’re from Missouri, but they stop by every once in a while.
Matt Smith Group is at Smoke & Barrel, and word on the street is they’re trying out a funkier new direction. We shall see, shalln’t we?
Sunday
How about a musical brunch? Clarke Buehling is at Greenhouse Grille Sunday morning. He’ll be the one with the banjo.
Sarah Hughes is at George’s for Monster Mug Night, and Jody’s Living Room open mic night has a new home this week at Smoke & Barrel. There’s free pizza, and somebody’s going to win a four-hour block of recording time from East Hall Studios.
