There are a ton of good bands in Fayetteville right now. There are so many good bands, in fact, that local musician Jeff Kearney (1 oz. Jig, Flipoff Pirates) decided it was time to do something to capture this moment in the history of Fayetteville music.

Kearney has gathered up 14 local acts from several musical genres, and put them all on a new compilation CD set to be released Jan. 15 at George’s Majestic Lounge.

The compilation is called Fayetteville 2011, and Kearney said he hopes the record will expose music fans to bands that they may not be familiar with to help foster a sense of community among Fayetteville musicians.

“There is just so much good stuff going on in Fayetteville right now,” he said. “It seemed like everyone released new material this year, and I just wanted to find a way to showcase it.”

Kearney said that some of the bands on the compilation submitted album tracks from recent or upcoming releases, but that the album also included some unreleased material as well.

The CDs will be available for $10 at the release party, and afterwards, each of the bands featured on the compilation will get copies to sell to fans. Kearney said he also expects local music store Sound Warehouse to carry the compilation.

Randall Shreve and the Sideshow, The Commoners, Perpetual Werewolf, The 1 oz. Jig, and MSG will play at the party. The cover will be $10 at the door.
